Research and Development of a Clothing-type HAL for Maintaining and Improving Walking Functions of the Elderly
(Cyberdyne Inc.)
Main Features
HAL® Lumbar Type for Well-being reduces stress on the lower back during assistance movements such as transfer aid, thereby reducing the risk of lower back pain. It enables caregivers to provide care more easily. It supports not only the person being supported but also the caregiver providing support.
Product Features
We have analyzed and simulated the load on the lower back in movements such as transfer aid from bed to wheelchair and repositioning aid from a medical anatomical perspective, and we have achieved functions that can further reduce the load on the lumbar.
As the aid amount can be set with just two buttons, everyone can easily use the product.
It is battery-powered, so it can be used in various locations without limitation, such as for bathing assistance.
Technical Features
HAL reads “bioelectric potential signals,” which are the signals sent from the brain to muscles when a person moves their body, and realizes movements according to the wearer’s intention. In other words, HAL freely assists the wearer in moving, thereby making it easier to provide the same level of care.
The battery is replaceable and the model is compact and lightweight (approx. 3 kg), enabling care workers to wear and use it for a long time.
